Will O’ The Wisp

A will-o’-the-wisp (from the medieval Latin ignis fatuus, “foolish fire”) is an atmospheric ghost light seen at night, especially over bogs, swamps or marshes. It often looks like a torch or lantern.

It is a mischievous spirit, usually associated with a person named Will or Jack. One legend tells of a blacksmith named Will who was sent back to earth by Saint Peter to reform, but instead got caught up in nefarious deeds and was cursed to wander the marshes.

Despite improved photographic gear, genuine visual documentation of will-o’-the-wisps remains hard to come by. However, a number of artistic renderings have been captured on film and digital cameras.

The Grill

This upscale, buttoned-up steakhouse by Major Food Group is a contemporary celebration of midcentury American dining. Debonair service captains and a powerhouse wine list set the stage for expertly prepared classics like prime rib and the Seagram crab cake.

The menu also offers a handful of dishes that make it stand out from the pack, such as shrimp cocktail and escargots. Desserts are impressive, too, including a trio of warm bread puddings and an open flame that nearly singes your eyebrows in a tableside display of cherries flambee.

Located in the upstairs lobby of the Deep Point ferry terminal, Island Times Cafe offers breakfast, lunch and to-go meals. It’s a great spot for coffee and ice cream after hopping off the ferry.
