English Premier League (EPL) club Tottenham Hotspur is introducing a 'legacy number' to recognize the contribution of players who have made first-team appearances in the club's history.

From current Spurs captain Son Heung-min to former players Lee Young-pyo and South Korea national soccer team coach Jürgen Klinsmann, all will receive a unique number.

Tottenham announced on its website on Oct. 27, "All players who have played for the club from their first recorded first-team appearance on Oct. 13, 1894, in an English Football Association (FA) Cup tie against West Herts to the present day will be given a unique number. They are given a 'legacy number' to inscribe them in the club's history."

The club has a total of 879 legacy numbered players to date. The iconic numbers 1-11 are the best 11 players who played in the FA Cup tie against West Herts 129 years ago and have been allocated a legacy number in alphabetical order of their names.

The final number, 879, is Alejo Velis, who made his debut against Liverpool on January 1.
